Sam Altman-Backed Humane AI Pin Is Both Interesting and Futuristic, but It Won’t Replace Your Phone

Ever since the Humane AI Pin was first announced, people have been curious whether it could replace smartphones someday. The device was also mentioned in Time's "Best Inventions of 2023", and finally, we spent some time with it in the hands-on zone of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. While we didn't use it independently, an extended demo where company representatives talked about all the features and demoed most of them gave us a sneak peek into the future of mobile devices, but at the same, it also felt that the AI Pin isn't ready to replace your smartphone just yet.  The square-shaped screen-less device has been designed by ex-Apple employees, and it is currently available for pre-order in the US for $699 (roughly Rs. 60,000). Adobe Announces Project Music GenAI Control, an Experimental AI-Based Music Generation Tool

Image
Adobe announced a new experimental artificial intelligence (AI)-based tool on Wednesday that can generate music from simple text prompts. Named Project Music GenAI Control, Adobe says the AI tool not only generates music, but also gives users “pixel-level control for music” by letting them edit, lengthen, shorten, remix, and create loops. There are more edit options available that allow for granular control of the generated clip. Adobe's latest AI tool arrives after the company announced an AI assistant for Acrobat and Reader last week that can summarise and analyse long PDFs. Project Music GenAI Control, as per Adobe's announcement , is a music creation and editing interface that works like most other AI tools. Users get a text field where they can add plain text prompts such as “happy rock song”, “intense hip hop beats”, or “sad jazz”. Once the input is sent, the AI will generate a music clip based on the request made. There are no voices in the generated clip; just music

Apple Abandons Decade-Long Electric Car Project, Shifts Focus on Generative AI

Apple is canceling a decadelong effort to build an electric car, according to people with knowledge of the matter, abandoning one of the most ambitious projects in the history of the company. Apple made the disclosure internally Tuesday, surprising the nearly 2,000 employees working on the project, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the announcement wasn't public. The decision was shared by Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and Kevin Lynch, a vice president in charge of the effort, according to the people.  The two executives told staffers that the project will begin winding down and that many employees on the car team — known as the Special Projects Group, or SPG — will be shifted to the artificial intelligence division under executive John Giannandrea. Those employees will focus on generative AI projects, an increasingly key priority for the company. The Apple car team also has several hundred hardware engineers and vehicle designers. It's possib

Threads Saved Posts Feature Begins Rolling Out to Several Users After Weeks of Testing: How it Works

Threads is getting a new feature that will allow users to bookmark their favourite posts. The feature was first announced by the Meta-owned microblogging platform earlier this month and was being tested with a limited number of users. It is now being rolled out widely and more users should soon have access to the feature on their app. Recently, the Meta-owned social media platform was also spotted testing a new section where trending posts would be shown to some users, similar to the trending page on X (formerly known as Twitter). Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced the roll-out of the saved posts feature via a post on Threads. He said, “We're rolling out Save on Threads more broadly starting today, so you can bookmark your favourite posts for later.” Interestingly, when asked if saving posts could influence the algorithm and the feed on the platform, Mosseri replied, “Eventually yes, but I don't know if that's the case yet.” Post by @mosseri View on Threads
